Psychedelics

Psychedelic drugs

Drugs that primarily influence the way the brain processes the chemical serotonin. They can bring on vivid visions and affect a person’s sense of self.

Includes: psilocybin, LSD, DMT, mescaline.

Dissociative drugs

Drugs that primarily affect how the brain processes the chemical glutamate. These drugs can make people feel disconnected from their body and environment.

Includes: ketamine, PCP.

Other

Drugs such as MDMA, ibogaine, and salvia affect a variety of brain functions to cause psychedelic and/or dissociative effects.

All of these substances have mind-altering properties with the potential to cause changes in thought processes,
mood, and perception of reality.

Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy (PAP)/Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)is a therapeutic approach in which carefully selected medications are used, when legal, with talk therapy to support emotional healing and personal insight. In a safe, professionally guided setting, these medicines may help people access deeper thoughts and feelings, making it easier to work through challenges such as trauma, anxiety, depression, and life transitions.
